Issue 49: Spring 2020 is Here!
Dear Readers,
The weather feels more like summer than spring and the world is shifting in ways we couldn’t have imagined. As another week begins, I'm happy to say that our new spring issue is ready for you to dive into. So stay home and relax with our latest offering of excellent fiction, poetry, essays, interviews, and reviews.
This issue’s fiction features “Memories of the Drowned Whale” by Reham Emam, “Vanishing Point” by Danie Shokoohi, and “Cherry and Jane in the Garden of Eden” by Shaelin Bishop.
In poetry, check out “To Splinter Its Healing” and “Attend: Guava” by Hari Alluri, “tankas for a buried town” by Leanne Toshiko Simpson, “Behold This Heap” by Emily Tristan Jones, “When I got back from the Gulag, my father says” by Claudia Serea, “stockholm” by Daniel Garcia, “Circular hymn” by Lenea Grace, and “burrow” by Daniel Sarah Karasik.
In this season’s essays, read Mikka Jacobsen’s “Modern Fables” and Jancie Creaney’s “PHANTOM FLOWER.”
This issue’s interviews include Annick MacAskill’s interview with Sue Goyette on re-writing, reclamation, and unredacting, Kim Davids Mandar and Jeremy Luke Hill’s conversation on the forthcoming collection In |Appropriate: Interviews on the Writing of Difference, and Kate Finegan’s interview with Conyer Clayton on destruction and renewal.
Finally, this issue’s reviews section features reviews of John Elizabeth Stintzi’s Vanishing Monuments by Jonathan Wlodarski and Noor Naga’s Washes, Prays by Sanna Wani.
Speaking of, this has been the last issue for fiction editor Noor Naga. We’re wishing her all the best with the launch of her new book and can’t wait to see what comes next for her!
We’re also excited to announce that starting with the summer issue, our fiction section will be helmed by Adnan Khan.
Issue 49 also brings us two new masthead editors in the Reviews department. Taking over for Tajja Isen, we welcome Kelly Whitehead and Emilie Kneifel as our two new Reviews editors. They hit the ground running with only a few weeks to get ready for the new issue, so we can’t thank them enough.
And with that we present Issue 49. We hope you enjoy our very latest and that you are all safe and well.
All the best,
The Editors
