The Puritan Is Looking for a Fiction Editor

The Puritan is now accepting applications for the position of Fiction Editor. We are currently looking for a dedicated individual to take over our Fiction section starting with our Spring or Summer 2020 issue (beginning in April 2020). We’re looking for someone with strong opinions about contemporary fiction, and a passion for short stories; someone excited to work with emerging and established writers in an editorial capacity. This is a volunteer position that currently offers no honorarium. FICTION EDITOR WILL:
  • SELECT FICTION SUBMISSIONS FROM A POOL PUT FORWARD BY A TEAM OF FIRST READERS
  • ASSIST IN FIRST READING
  • WORK WITH CONTRIBUTORS TO SUBSTANTIVELY EDIT SHORT STORIES
  • PUBLISH 3 WORKS OF SHORT FICTION FOR EACH QUARTERLY ISSUE
  • SOLICIT NEW WORK FROM FICTION WRITERS
  • SOLICIT AUTHOR NOTES FROM PUBLISHED CONTRIBUTORS
  • PARTICIPATE IN MASTHEAD MEETINGS TO STRATEGIZE ABOUT NEW WORK AND DIRECTIONS FOR THE MAGAZINE
  • ASSIST IN PROMOTING PUBLISHED WORK
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
  • KNOWLEDGE OF AND INTEREST IN CONTEMPORARY CANADIAN LITERATURE AND LITERARY COMMUNITIES
  • EXCELLENT WRITTEN AND ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  • PROFICIENCY WITH MS PROGRAMS AND GOOGLE MAIL/DOCS
  • THE ABILITY TO MEET STRICT DEADLINES
  • THE ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY AND AS PART OF A TEAM
