Come What May: Toronto Literary Event Itinerary—May pt. 1

There's not time for thisGood People of Toronto,The spring launch season has clacked into fourth gear.  Journals are being launched at ungodly rates, anthologies and novels, poetry collections and non-fiction works—everything’s launching, launching, launching. In light of this, I would like to suggest that staying inside to watch Louie on Netflix for the sixth consecutive night is 1) starting to require a seriously perverse effort of will, 2) something for which, considering the necessity of breaking this month’s event post into two installments, you really should feel guilty. You should instead take the chance to go outside, then go inside to a reading. But hey, it’s your soul, not mine. With that in mind, here's part one of your Toronto literary event itinerary for May.This time around we’re repping the Pivot Reading Series—a “go-to” for many of us at The Puritan, and one very solid reading series that never disappoints.  Q Space—mentioned in a recent Town Crier post on independent bookstores—will continue their Wordstage series with a bunch of veteran Toronto-based poets.  Also, under the stewardship of Canadian avant-gardist bill bissett, a new anthology called All That is Real hit the press and there’s a reading at The Drake in support of its release (apparently “an incredible sound poetry finale” is in the cards, which even if it’s not any good will still feel like a brush with extraterrestrial life).  For the first half of May, however, the coup de grace is the Comic Festival.  Panels, readings, workshops, interviews, gallery shows, Art Spiegelmen, Francoise Mouly... should I stop now? It’s the tenth anniversary and it’s free and we should all go together. All That is Real Poetry LaunchMay 5th @ 2:00PMDrake HotelFreeToronto Wordstage with A.F.
