The Puritan Is Looking for Proofreaders!

The Puritan, one of Canada's best-known digital literary magazines, is looking for an energetic, careful, team-oriented proofreader to help make sure every issue that gets published is error-free and follows style guide rules. Now in its 11th year, The Puritan publishes new poetry, short stories, essays, interviews, and reviews every quarter, with one to two special issues a year. We are looking for a magazine proofreader and a blog proofreader/associate editor for The Town Crier: Magazine Proofreader
  • able to read each issue (quarterly, plus up to 2 smaller special issues) before publication
  • catch typographic, spelling, and grammar errors
  • check best practices for hyperlinking
  • work will mostly be in the 2 weeks before publication with nothing in between
Blog Proofreader / Associate Editor
  • able to read 2-3 short posts (500-2000 words) each week
  • catch typographic, spelling, and grammar errors
  • upload posts to the blog on a regular schedule
  • grow into an editorial role that will involve substantial editing, soliciting, etc. Please email if you have more questions about the editorial side of this role
  • work will be a small amount of time (2-3 hours) every week
This individual would also need to be able to communicate regularly with editorial staff. An ideal candidate would also have some knowledge of the Canadian stylebook and an interest in contemporary literature or publishing. This is a stipendiary, part-time position, and we would need someone who can stay motivated and engaged while working remotely.
