NOW HIRING: PUBLICITY MANAGER

Do you have strong opinions about the Canadian literary community? Are you excited about sharing new work from emerging and established writers? Do you want to play a role in shaping Canada’s literary conversation?

If so, you should throw your hat into the ring to become The Ex-Puritan’s new Publicity Manager!

We are currently looking for a dedicated individual to manage our publicity, starting in February 2025.

THE PUBLICITY MANAGER WILL:

  • Manage and maintain social media accounts (as seen above), with heavier promotion cycles occurring around issue launches, job postings, and contest deadlines.
  • Manage and maintain our MailChimp newsletter.
  • Populate our Linktree with relevant links (and disable those which are no longer relevant).
  • Edit social media bios and information to reflect relevant changes and new developments (particularly key during our current phase of rebranding).
  • Boost our presence and visibility by attending literary readings, launches, festivals, etc. (can be done remotely for the time being).
  • Foster a spirit of literary community and support through social media cross-promotion and event participation.
  • Perform preliminary readings of contest submissions, along with other Masthead members, and aid in selecting which will be sent on to the judges.
  • Attend and participate in regular masthead meetings.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

  • Knowledge of and interest in contemporary Canadian literature, literary communities, and magazine publishing
  • Excellent grasp of grammar and copyediting conventions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS programs and WordPress
  • The ability to meet strict deadlines
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team


Interested candidates should familiarize themselves with the magazine, its history, and the work it publishes, then send a cover letter and resume (or CV) as .doc, .docx, or .pdf attachment to [email protected]. Cover letters should answer the following questions: 1) What draws you to The Ex-Puritan in particular? 2) What experience, if any, do you have with managing publicity? 3) What makes you specifically suited for the role of publicity manager? Applications are due by Monday, January 20.

This is a volunteer position, currently receiving a $250 honorarium per quarterly issue.
