NOW HIRING: MANAGING EDITOR
Do you have a passion for putting incredible writing on display? Do you have a knack for organization and scheduling? Do you know a thing or two about being a site admin?
If so, we'd love to see your application to be Managing Editor of The Ex-Puritan!
This role would begin formally in March 2025, with training to begin upon hiring.
As Managing Editor, you will:
- Work closely with the publisher, the editor-in-chief, and the rest of the masthead editors to successfully publish four quarterly issues per year
- Oversee publication of special and supplementary issues
- Manage our team of volunteer readers
- Monitor Submittable and respond to queries in a timely manner
- Upload and properly format submissions on our website
- Perform preliminary readings of contest submissions, along with other Masthead members, and aid in selecting which will be sent on to the judges
- Attend and participate in regular masthead meetings
All applicants should be familiar with the magazine and its mandate, and should also be familiar with the dynamics of literary publishing in Canada. In addition to having some experience in literature or publishing, applicants should have:
- A good working knowledge of contemporary Canadian literature
- An excellent grasp of grammar and copyediting conventions
- The ability to meet strict deadlines
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
- Experience with (or a willingness to learn about) managing the back-end of a website

This is a volunteer position, currently receiving a $500 honorarium per quarterly issue.
