ISSUE 12: WINTER 2011

Homely World

It had animals including an ape and two trees in a forest which had

been known to talk to one another.

I used to like to pick them up.

The stores that sell them have gone out of business.

They’re round and generally five inches high

and are usually given with jewelry.

I have been searching for years now

and would really like to hear from you.

I discovered the box with a few of the cards

and the memories kept flooding back.

It stays with you like a childhood scent.

You have helped me before.

I am looking for as many pieces as I can find.

There’s the one made of felt

and the one made of something very slippery.

Unfortunately, I gave mine away years ago and

now desperately need them.

The company went out of business

about a dozen years ago.

I have thought about them for the longest of time.

This year, a plate and a bowl were broken

and although I don’t write as often as I used to

if you wanted to share a pattern with me—

something to keep it from all spilling out,

I would be like the mirror you see

of somebody so very happy.
