Underpass Journal Open for Submission

Underpass Journal Underpass JournalAs part of The Town Crier’s ongoing announcement of literary submissions south of the border, we present a call out for Underpass Journal. Read on to hear their mandate from their editorial team.Introducing Underpass Journal, your exit ramp to niches of the world that don't usually make the international "trending" list. Underpass.co is an online journal that publishes short fiction and narrative nonfiction that has been translated into English from under-published language groups. Almost half the translations published in the United States each year are translated from French, German, and Spanish. At Underpass, we want to share stories from the rest of the planet. In our first year, we’ve been honoured to share the work of nearly two dozen Croatian writers. We’ve published stories from well-established writers such as Zoran Malkoč, winner of Croatia’s top literary award in 2015, and emerging writers like Vedran Volarić, winner of the Croatian Writer’s Association’s award for best unpublished novel by writers under the age of 35—just to name a few.For our second year, we’re expanding our reach with a broad call for submissions of translated literature from all Slavic languages. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, with a November 30 deadline for a special Spring 2017 release. We publish short stories, narrative nonfiction, and excerpts from longer work that have been translated into English. We’re particularly interested in great writing that provides English-speaking readers a window into new countries, neighbourhoods, cultures, and perspectives.Do you have a story we would love?
